The Contagion Grenade is a sealed vial of a highly-virulent synthetic biowarfare agent that, when deployed, disperses the agent into the surrounding area. All living creatures caught within the splash radius will be infected and can pass that infection along to others as they come into contact.
I started with the base game Pulse Grenade mesh and removed everything except for the end with the twist knob, mirroring it to form two symmetrical caps. I then added the glass tube and liquid from the Isotope-239 igniting agent mesh.
The following properties, perks and challenges apply to this weapon:
The pathogen will affect all living actors caught within the splash radius (except for robots, insects, the player, and hired companions), regardless of whether they are friendly or hostile. Infected actors are denoted by a sickly green membrane shader, and will infect other actors in close proximity. The effect continually reapplies itself, meaning infection is a guaranteed death sentence, albeit a slow one.
For an added challenge, you can use the console command
set aaaGLOBEnableContagionDanger to 1 to allow the pathogen to affect the player if not inoculated. The effect on the player is less severe, giving -1 Endurance and -20 Action Points for three hours. The only way to prevent suffering these effects is to inoculate yourself with Serum-114. In Hardcore Mode, this setting is enabled by default, and the serum only lasts for seven in-game days before losing effectiveness.
