The “trench gun” concept of fitting a pump-action shotgun with a heat shroud and bayonet has been produced by many companies on many different shotgun platforms, but this particular one is inspired by the rarest of the bunch, the Ithaca 37 – distinguished by its bottom-load/bottom-eject mechanism and subsequent lack of an ejection port on the side of the gun. As the name implies, trench guns were used primarily during the World Wars to clear enemy trenches.
I started with the base game Hunting Shotgun mesh, mirroring the receiver to remove the ejection port, and replacing the buttstock with the one from the Grenade Launcher, the trigger and trigger guard with the one from the Cowboy Repeater, and the pump grip with the one from the Riot Shotgun. I then used the muzzle brake from the Gauss Rifle as a heat shroud over the barrel, and added the cut-content Service Rifle Bayonet.
The following properties, perks and challenges apply to this weapon:
If the Player has this weapon equipped but no 12 gauge ammo in their inventory, the shotgun version will automatically be removed and replaced with the bayonet version. Conversely, upon picking up any 12 gauge ammo, the bayonet version will be removed and replaced with the shotgun version.
In V.A.T.S., the bayonet version can perform the unique “Pig Sticker” special attack with a Melee Weapons skill of 50 or above. This special attack imparts a bleed effect on the target, draining 1 HP per second for 15 seconds.
This weapon can be crafted at any workbench.
